Week 1 day 4 - Yoga X

Yoga X...I quite enjoyed yoga X. It's hard, it's challenging, I fell a bunch but it's so good. There were many times I found myself lying there watching them as I'm unfamiliar with many of the moves but then I'd join in and feel the burn in my muscles. I was only able to do 45 minutes worth of it as we are having people over tonight to ring in the new year and I had loads to do to get the house ready. It wasn't so bad but enough that I didn't want to be rushing right up to the end. Now the house is clean, food is ready, and I feel better for getting at least some of my workout in. Now I just have to hit the shower, have a quick bite and greet people as they get here.

Plan for tonight...loads of water and stick to the fruit and veggie trays :) It's worked for me so far.

Tomorrow is Legs and Back and then Ab Ripper X! By far the leg workout is the one I fear most. It is the weakest part of my body. The biggest part of my body and still the weakest. This is the part I always want to work but give up and lose hope about. I took a peak at the description for it and I think I'll be able to do this. It's nice to see that he mixes in other things in between so I'm hoping it'll be that boost I need to get through it. I used to do Legs of steel and actually enjoyed that but that was about 60lbs ago and I was a teenager :) I KNOW I can do this!!!!! Tony will help lead the way! I know it may not be perfect tomorrow but I will get there and eventually I will perfect that workout!

Happy New Year everyone!

Week 1 day 3 - Shoulders & Arms/Ab Ripper X

wow! Loved the shoulders and arms! Ab Ripper X I can see myself loving but I have to shed some more of the spare tire before I will enjoy it properly. My abs used to be the strongest part of my body and I know we'll get there again. But for now I have to revel in my shoulder and arm workout! I was sort of dreading this workout but found that I really really enjoyed it. So far core synergistics is my least favourite workout...so far.

Mason (kayak) Twist: 10

wowsa!!!! I know I can do better on this one but that's all I had today.

Now I understand how Lisa was so in love with this workout!!! The time flies because you enjoy it. And Tony Horton is very easy to listen to...he just seems like an average joe...with a ripped physique but still he makes mistakes and takes breaks like a normal person needs to. I also love that he tells you it's okay if you can only do it this way or this many reps. Love it!

Tomorrow is Yoga X...I love Yoga but I know it's not the relaxing enjoy the tranquility of it all version...it's the sweat your butt off and feel the burn kind of Yoga and I'm excited scared :)

Week 1 day 2 - Cardio X

Okay so today I will make this a shorter post...I won't break out the workout itself into each exercise but components this time.

Warm up was good
Yoga - was hurting my back more so I took it easy. still sensitive now but I'm sure it's just tight from using it for once But I love the warrior pose and can't wait to give that my all next time I do yoga.
Kenpo - LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS section. I'm so excited to try KenpoX on Saturday. My favourite thing on Wii Active was the kick boxing/boxing and so this is right up my alley.
Plyo - alot of fun as well....although I'm glad I didn't have a bar stool for the swing kicks like they did...I had one of my daughter's play table chairs LOL....that was hard enough to kick over right now.
Dreya roll - consisted of me sitting on the floor and rolling back and forth there was no standing at the end let alone jumping up LOL.
Cool down - yet again love this part :)

Tomorrow is Shoulders and Arms and then Ab Ripper X (I'll admit I'm so scared about that one)

I still can't believe I burned 563 calories in 43 minutes with Cardio-X I've never done that much in that short of time. :) I know it will be less burned as I go along and my heart gets stronger and I lose weight. As I get healthier it will take more effort to get the heart pumping like that.

Time to hit the shower.

Week 1 day 1 - Core Synergistics

hmmm what can I say about Core Synergistics...ouch!!!! So far I can't do pushups let alone do them with any sort of grace so that hampered my efforts with this work out big time. I didn't sweat like I thought I would but that was mainly because I could only do a couple of each exercise and some none at all. So I did a lot of watching and moving around this time...but that's okay I know that eventually I will have enough strength to at least get half way through each segment.

So todays looked like this:

warm up no problem...same as cool down

stacked foot/staggered hand push ups - 0
banana roll - got 2 done...really kind of liked this one but it really works
leaning crescent lunges - 14 out of 24
squat run - 45 seconds out of 60
sphinx push up - 2 and I'm sure they weren't pretty or proper
bow to boat - liked this one too got 2.5 out of 5 LOL so hard
low lateral skates - 10 out of 20
lunge and reach - got about half way through tougher than I expected (just tiring)
break - nailed it LOL
prison cell push up - 1 sort of....I'd never make it in prison
side hip raise - 2 each side supposed to do 30-40 yeah right
squat x-press - like it...got about half way through
plank to chaturanga - did the knees couldn't do the push up thing...15 seconds out of 60
walking push up - 15 seconds or 1 rep
superman banana - loved it got about half way through
lunge kickback curl press - no weight about 1/4 of the reps...my coordination is usually good but I was distracted by my daughter at this point and lost focus for a minute or two
towel hoppers - so simple but so tired by this point - 30 seconds out of 60
ballistic stretch - nailed that too
reach high and under push ups - didn't do the push up and did one of the high and under on each side....damn that's hard but I liked it.
steam engine - managed to do about 45 seconds and gasped for air while watching them do it faster
Dreya Roll - someone needs to tell that chick she's crazy!!!! crazy fit and I'm sooo not (yet)...tried it pretty much managed to fall to floor rolled back and stayed there...there was no raising of feet let alone swinging back and jumping up to my feet again....ummmm that will be a while.
Bonus round - nailed the fast forwarding on the remote for that as well
cool down and stretch - my favourite part :)

I came upstairs and looked at the time and was so happy it was only 9:30 and I was done that for the day...although I was a little disappointed I wasn't sweating or feeling it much. However, the feeling it part has changed....it's less than 2 hours later and my lower back is telling me off and it's cursing like a sailor. I can safely say that my abs are strong and that's probably why I'm not feeling them much but those back muscles that mirror those abs are very weak and are telling me that I worked them harder than I realized. Interesting how it sneaks up on you like that.

Well I'm off to clean up my house...took all the toys out of the boxes from Christmas and now I need to cut them all down and tie them up for the recycling guys...that and I just can't look at it in my hallway anymore.

until tomorrow...um that will be Cardio-X (I fully expect a full on drenching of sweat for that one).

measurements and resting heart rate

Well today I thought I would be in pain from the fit test but so far so good...no achy muscles (I'm sure this will be a different story on Tuesday morning after the first work out).

I looked at the first workout and am quite scared to tell you the truth. I thought it wasn't so bad until I realized I had just read the warm up...holy crap!!! Okay I can do this but damn it's going to be hard. Of course anything worth having should be challenging right?!

Right so as the title of this post promised below are the measurements:

Resting heart rate: 60
Weight 209.6
body fat % 58.8% (so not good)

chest - 41 1/2"
Waist - 38"
Hips - 48 3/4"
right thigh - 28"
left thigh - 28 3/4"
right arm - 14 1/2"
left arm - 13 1/2"

There's the dirt. I also took my before pics...they are ummmm well they show alot!!!! me at 209 lbs in a sports bra and short shorts...not the most flattering to say the least.

I promise to post them when I; like the cowardly lion, have found my courage :)

Today I'm off to the store to get my resistance bands and some yoga blocks and a recovery drink mix and then I'm reading for tomorrow morning....EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Also today I have my final Christmas dinner for the season woohoo. It's at my mother-in-laws and she always makes such a yummy dinner. I will pace myself and keep with my healthy eating. I've survived the other two dinners and I will survive this one too!

.....wish me luck :)

Fit Test (Why does Tony hate me so?)

OH DEAR LORD!!!!!!!!! I just did the fit test and I wonder what I ever did to Tony Horton to have him hate me soooo much!!!

So it's safe to say that I "failed" the ahem "fit" test!!! But I don't care I pushed it and gave it all I had and then some. I'm going to start with the lean version of P90X to shed some weight first like they suggest. Then after my first 90 days then I'll do the classic version.

My hubby was recording my progress in the fitness manual for me and upon seeing me and laughing a little, he's decided to use the treadmill and our weight machine for a month before he even attempts the fit test.

So here's the result of my fit test:

1. Pull ups (must be able to do a minimum of 1 pull up) - I managed to lift my feet off the ground that's about as far as I got so I put that as a big old goose egg (0) (failed)

2. Vertical Leap (minimum 3 inches) I was very impressed with myself on this one I got 7 inches (passed)

3. Push Ups (minimum 15 knees or 3 regular) I tried regular at first and thought I was going to be fine until I fell on my face LOL. So I was able to do 15 on my knees. (passed)

4. Toe Touches (minimum no less than 6 inches from your toes) I made it 1 inch passed my toes (passed)

5. Wall Squat (minimum 1 minute) I made it to 40 seconds before I crashed hard (pure evil this one) (failed)

6. Bicep Curls (minimum 10 curls with 8 lbs) I thought it would be 4 per arm so I did 5 per arm and was wrong obviously. I did 30 curls with 5 lbs in each hand so I think I would have been fine with 8 or 10 lbs at 10 curls. (passed)

7. In & Outs (minimum 25) BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA yeah I did 13 and wanted to cry (failed)

8. Heart Rate Maximizer (minimum be able to finish 2 minutes of jumping jacks) so I did it but I stopped 3 times I kept moving and only stopped for a couple of seconds each time but it still wasn't non stop...(failed)

Heart rate immediately after jacks - 186
Heart rate after 1 minute - 148
Heart rate after 2 minutes - 136
Heart rate after 3 minutes - 117
Heart rate after 4 minutes - 112

All in all I think I did okay with obvious room for improvement.

I will post my measurements and resting heart rate tomorrow. I'm feeling really pumped right now and very excited about starting on Monday. Excited and a little nervous. :)

pre Day 1

Well yesterday I received P90X from Santa and I was sooooo excited because that was the one big thing I asked for and I got it. I'm really looking forward to using it and was a little disappointed that I have to wait to start. I need to install a chin up bar (I didn't get the P90X version just one my hubby found at the store). I also need to take my resting heartrate, measurements and before pics. Then I have to do the fit test.

Here's the plan. Today I will finish reading the workout guide and make a list of what I need to do to start. I will take my measurements today as well as the before pics (they will remain hidden until such time as I feel comfortable posting pics of me at 209 lbs on the internet). Yep I'm currently 209 lbs! I will be honest with you about my weight, struggles, etc...the pics will come in time :)

I'm hoping to do the fit test tonight as I'm supposed to wait a day or two before I start the workout itself. So if I do it tonight then I can start fresh on Monday like my friend Lisa suggested. That way I will have my rest day/stretch X day on Sunday.

Tomorrow we are going to my mother-in-laws for our final Christmas dinner (this will dinner #3). So far I've survived the other two without gaining...in fact I've lost over this Christmas break so far. My plan was to not gain but so far I'm exceeding that which for me is HUGE!!!

Okay I've bored you all enough for now...and by all I mean me cause no one else knows I'm writing this yet ;)
